Hello Nomnotho! How did you hear about the e-learning platform Kaya, and which courses did you take?
I started seeing people post their certificates on LinkedIn and got interested, I wanted an easy platform to upskill myself. I registered in December 2020 and took my first course on Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning in Emergencies in January 2021. It was useful and I like how they used easy terms in the course content. While I know a lot in Monitoring & Evaluation, I didn’t have a certificate so now I am happy to say 4 years experience and a certificate.
What did you enjoy the most?
The easy to understand content! Monitoring & Evaluation has a lot of jargon but that was removed from this course. The examples used also touched me as they are the reason why I left the corporate world to work in the humanitarian sector. I needed to see myself work on life changing projects.

What are your learning expectations for the future?
I want to take another course related to Data Analysis and another one about Impact investing. I would also like to develop my leadership skills.
What would you say are the greatest challenges facing humanitarians?
The inability to attract and keep young talent in the sector. The reason is often pay gaps, benefits and skills development between humanitarian organisations and private companies, but also the top down approach in most organisations. All organisations by their evolving nature and growth, will always need new relevant knowledge. The challenge is adapting and finding the balance to keep the young talent interested and sold out to the vision and mission of the humanitarian work.
